Unit 3 Resources - Health of Canadians and the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH)

Unit 3 : Week 5 and 6 consisted of defining what health is. We focused on contemporary approaches to understanding what health is. We then moved to identifying and understanding the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH). We tried to answer the question what are the factors influencing one's current and future state of health?

  • This article examines the WHO’s definition of health and how it is not always relevant with today’s definition of health and how individuals live with their disease.

  • This article discusses again the WHO’s definition of health and how it should encompass more than what WHO gave it. This article begins to touch on the health of the individual and health of the community and how it all ties together.

  • This article further defines that the definition of health has changed and adapted since the 1948 WHO definition and supports that people can live a long, healthy life even with disease.
