Nursing Code of Conduct

The focus of the College of Nurses is to protect the public.  Putting patients at the centre of our care.

As a practicing nurse, I not only value the Code of Conduct, it is the foundation of my daily work and the standards in which I hold my employees accountable to.

Nurses respect the dignity of patients and treat them as individuals

Nursing care is nondiscriminatory and nonjudgmental. Nurses respect patients as individuals and treat patients the same no matter their race, gender, sexual identity, culture or beliefs.

Nurses work together to promote patient well-being

Patient centered care is the goal of a nurse patient relationship. Nurses advocate for their patients to receive the best care possible.

3

Nurses maintain patients' trust by providing safe and competent care.

Nurses ensure they are up to date with best practice guidelines and practicing within their scope. Nurses make themselves readily available for their patients.

4

Nurses work respectfully with colleagues to best meet patients' needs.

Nurses work together to train, mentor and develop new staff. Nurses speak up to report unsafe practice to ensure patient safety.

5

Nurses act with integrity to maintain patients' trust.

Nurses protect the privacy and confidentiality of their patients. They do not share patient information on social media.

6

Nurses maintain patients' trust by providing safe and competent care.

Nurses are accountable for their actions. They do not practice care while under any substances. Nurses communicate the care they are about to provide.
